Conversely, harder, denser materials allow for larger vortices, eventually engulfing others to form a single, massive vortex like Saturn's.
Study author Wanying Kang explains, 'Our research demonstrates that the surface fluid pattern is influenced by the interior properties of these planets. The 'softness' of the vortex's base, determined by the interior composition, is a critical factor. This connection between surface patterns and interior properties is novel and could imply that Saturn's interior is more metal-enriched, providing stronger stratification compared to Jupiter.'
